Our Summer Camp

for our teen camp we have a max. 8 per group (only one group per week)

We host our camp at LAE Kids’ young learners’ school campus, which is perfectly adapted for our Kids to enjoy an exciting summer in the heart of Madrid. The centre is safe and secure and separate from all adult classes. It’s located in a leafy suburb, opposite a park where we spend the sunny summer mornings playing games and eating our snacks!

Our proven, full-immersion methodology involves the teacher speaking only Spanish and encourages our students to communicate fluidly and interact.

We also make sure that we don’t just stay in the classroom. What is special about our camp is the small group numbers, which allow us to take the children on mini-excursions once a week to see Madrid and live Spanish. We can go to the robot museum, dance classes or even to the Real Madrid football stadium!

All activities are included in the cost of the camp.

Most children on our teen camp are learning Spanish at school so we split the day into two parts. The first half of the day (when they are most receptive) is the academic part. The method is still engaging and interactive but there is a definite focus on helping the teens to excel and really work on their level and fluidity.  The second part of the day is fluency based.  From our extensive experience, there is sometimes a lack of emphasis put on communication and fluency to speak Spanish. Through projects, such as designing and starring in their own video (we have a video studio at the school), the students are encouraged to speak and speak with confidence.

The classes for the teens are based on level, not age so we need to carry out a short level test with your child/ren before starting our camp.  We also like to have contact with their Spanish teachers at school where possible to find out what they have worked on and what they will be working on in the coming year. This helps us to design a curriculum that is relevant and helps increase the academic performance of your chid/ren.

The skill that is the most important for us at this stage is your child’s ability to speak in Spanish.  If they feel safe and confident, they will take risks with the language and it is taking risks that allows progression.  While we may be learning to code, build robots, make a video, do graffiti etc, we are most interested in their ability to speak about the activity and to communicate with the other students and their teacher without embarrassment.

Cultural understanding is another important skill that we teach on the course.  Spain is very culturally very different to other countries and your children will also be around other teens from all around the world.  With the world becoming ever smaller, cultural competence is a skill we prize highly.

Your child will be in a group of children from all over the world! The teachers put a focus on helping students to bond with their classmates and gain confidence to speak and participate in Spanish. Only Spanish is spoken by the teachers but they have the ability to converse in other languages when needed.

We start each morning at 09.15 and finish at 15.45, from Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch, provided by LAE Kids.

9.15 – 11.15

C-2-C: Confidence to Communicate

During the morning our teens will focus on communication and speaking skills in real-life situations. The aim of our camp is for your teens to gain confidence and to start using the Spanish that they know. Everything is interactive, using role-plays, presentations, video interviews, among many other things.

Break (with a snack included)

11.30 – 13.00

Grammar Crammer

We will split the group according to level and dedicate lots of time to ensuring that our teens are making progress with their Spanish grammar. From conjugations to the subjunctive, we will ensure that they leave the summer camp flying with their Spanish grammar.

13.00 – 13.30

We will provide a nutritious meal, catering for all allergies and dietary requirements.

13.30 – 15.30

Film School

At 14.30 we begin Film school. Our teens will learn about script writing, lighting, editing, teamwork etc. We will spend some time outside filming for our projects but we will stay in the shade of the trees and limit the time outside to 30 minutes.

At the end of the week, we will have our Oscars party where friends and family are welcome to come to watch the students’ short films.

We also offer Spanish classes for adults at LAE Madrid, our accredited Spanish school, which is nearby. Please ask about availability when enquiring.
